One day, Mr. Paul Cooper, Vice President of Atlantic Records called me at home. He started to explain this thing called, "The internet."
He told me that it was going to change the music business forever & that he was going to change because of it.
I was stunned. Mr. Cooper carefully detailed how I needed to buy my "name" and go for digital technology in videos, photographs & audio recordings.
I thanked him for all he had done for me and kept my notes of our conversation. I hadn't understood a word he said but I told him that I would get an e-mail thing right away and follow all his instructions.
I set up an office in my garage. A friend of mine was a computer technician for Novel. He showed me how to set up a computer and have "The Internet & e-mail."
I used a credit card to purchase Peggy Penny dot com from Network Solutions. At the time that was the only government sponsored company that sold domain names. It cost $35 a year.
I thought that a web site would magically appear there. LoL
(more on that later)
I took to e-mail right away because of my ability to type well. I have been at peggypenny@yahoo.com forever it seems. Since the beginning of The Internet.
Sounds like a song I just wrote a couple weeks ago. haha
Since the Start of Time
Since the Start of Internet. HAR!
When the Napster legal arguments started, I was transfixed.
Share Music vs. Copyrights The world of music did turn upside down, just like Paul Cooper had told me.
Music was suddenly everywhere for free. Artists put their music onto the internet without getting paid and they didn't seem to care. Everyone just wanted to be a star.
