Peggy Penny:
There are moments in your life that define who you are &
this time it is my turn.
Public Speaker:
And now back to our story of how Peggy Penny entered into the recording business.
I was rehearsing dance at a dance studio located next to KXFM radio station. My apartment was just across a little alley where the D.J.s would hang out. They would see me walking to the dance studio in my funny dance clothes and holler out to me.
One day, one of the DJs told me that they needed a female voice over for a commercial and asked me if I could come into the station and read for it. They recorded the first take and used it.
After that, I was offered a commercial for Wet Pets, a local pet store.
I wrote and recorded a little jingle for Wet Pets and became the original Wet Pets Girl on radio. The DJs would describe me in all sorts of crazy ways, usually like a mermaid. The commercial received a lot of attention. I won a NAB radio award for the commercial jingle.
The DJs were so impressed, that they put together a make shift band and decided to record my first song. I had been writing poetry about the DJs and one of the poems was picked to make into a song.
We recorded, City Boys.
Peggy Penny:
I signed an excusive contract with a recording company that included a disclosure agreement. For example, I was in contract violation if I told people the name of the song or the lyrics that I had written to record.
I had to meet a recording equipment list. There were two studios in the area that had the required equipment. ^&*( and S.
I went to #$%^ because it was was closer. I interviewed with $% and all the necessary equipment was new, $ had just built the recording studio and it was prime for the time.
Three weeks after contracting and paying #^&* declared that he wanted me to have sex with him.
(his handwritten letter scanned in file)
I discovered that he was recording our conversations without my permission or knowledge and trying to lure me into sexual conversations for his personal listening pleasures. Merrell Fankhauser caught him in the act and alerted me.
Because I was contracted and had already paid #, I had to hold him at bay while trying to work and sing. It was a very difficult tight rope walk and my music suffered.
My producer and I traveled to Atascadero's S. studios with 3 grand as a budget.
Back then, that was a lot of money, but we knew what we wanted and needed. We meet with S, but he was strangely rude and indifferent to our project and our money. We left confused.
Later, we found out that @#$% and S. are friends and that we were rejected as an attempt to shut me out of recording my music.
I turned to a Christian friend and straightforward engineer, Mike Coho, Zion Recording Studio. It wasnt state of the art equipment, but it was solid honest and most of all real."
